The fourth performance in the free 2011-12 Music Concert Series at Pellissippi State Community College focuses exclusively on instrumental music.
Today's Small Instrumental Ensembles Concert promises a wide variety of selections and musical styles — and it showcases the talents of the school's music students.More than 60 students make up this semester's Small Instrumental Ensembles.
Music at the concert will include separate ensembles of brass, guitar and percussion. A mixed small instrumental ensemble and a bluegrass ensemble will perform as well. The groups are set to present a variety of music genres, including classical, blues, jazz and folk.
Pianists will perform on Steinway pianos, in keeping with Pellissippi State's status as an All Steinway School. The Pellissippi State Foundation conducted the All Steinway School fundraising campaign in 2010 in order to elevate the college's music program; the college now boasts 13 Steinway pianos in studios, practice rooms and performance venues.
The Small Instrumental Ensembles Concert begins at 7 p.m. in the Clayton Performing Arts Center on the Pellissippi Campus, 10915 Hardin Valley Road. Free parking is available.
Donations are accepted at the door for the Pellissippi State Foundation on behalf of the Music Scholarship fund.
The next installation in the Music Concert Series is the Holiday Spectacular, scheduled for Dec. 8. Two holiday performances will be offered— at 6 and 8 p.m.
