Country music artist Taylor Swift performs at Thompson-Boling Arena Friday, July 1, 2011.
Taylor Swift talks about the responsibility of being a role model in an upcoming installment of "60 Minutes." Swift, one of the most popular artists in modern music tell "60 Minutes" correspondent Lesley Shahl that being a role model is always on her mind:
“I definitely think about a million people when I am getting dressed in the morning. That’s just part of my life now. I think it’s my responsibility to know it and to be conscious of it.”
Swift, 21, stands in contrast to other artists who say they are not responsible for the influence they have on children.
“It would be really easy to say…I’m 21 now. I do what I want. You raise your kids. But…that’s not the truth of it. The truth of it is that every singer out there with songs on the radio is raising the next generation. So make your words count,” says Swift.
Swift also addresses bullying, saying that her song "Mean" was written in response to a painful incident in her own life, but was adapted to address bullying in general.
The "60 Minutes" episode will air at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, on CBS.
