Friday, Oct. 14: Jonathan Tyler & The Northern Lights

Rock 'n' roll ensemble Jonathan Tyler & The Northern Lights will be fully visible at 8 p.m. at The Shed at Smoky Mountain Harley-Davidson, 1820 Lamar Alexander Parkway, Maryville.

The band from Dallas, Texas, likes to emphasize its balance of rock and "its oft-forgotten prodigal twin, the roll."

Saturday, Oct. 15: Vintage Trouble

Vintage Trouble will bring its contemporary take on classic soul and rhythm & blues to town at 10 p.m. at Barley's Taproom & Pizzeria, 200 E. Jackson Ave.

Sunday, Oct. 16: The Kernal

The Kernal, a lanky, long-haired fellow from Jackson, Tenn., performs his "imaginary country music" wearing a snazzy red suit that he inherited from his late father, who wore it as part of the Grand Ole Opry House Band.

The Kernal will perform at 10 p.m. at Barley's Taproom & Pizzeria, 200 Jackson Ave.

G.R. Robinson will open the show.

Monday, Oct. 17: Pujol at Pilot Light

Nashville-based southern garage-rock band Pujol will entertain at 10 p.m. at Pilot Light, 106 E. Jackson Ave.

Tuesday, Oct. 18: Jodie Manross

Recently returned troubadour Jodie Manross, the "little lady with the big voice," will entertain noon-1 p.m. during the WDVX Blue Plate Special at the Knoxville Visitor Center, 301 S. Gay St.

The free concert will also be broadcast live on WDVX 89.9 and 102.9 FM and online at www.wdvx.com.

Wednesday, Aug. 19: Kelcy Mae & Geoff Koch

Two singer-songwriters from the banks of the Mississippi will entertain 8-10 p.m. in the second-floor "Speakeasy" of the Preservation Pub, 28 Market Square.

Singer, guitarist and poet Kelcy Mae, left, hails from New Orleans and her roots-rocker touring pal Geoff Koch (pronounced like "coke") comes from St. Louis.

Thursday, Oct. 20: Wild Thyme's 'Ghastly Gala'

The Wild Thyme Players and the Silver Stage Players will present melodrama and mayhem in their production "The Ghastly Gala of the Grand Guignol" at 7 p.m. Thursday-Friday, Oct,. 20-21, at Relix Variety Theatre, 1208 N. Central St.

The stories in the show include drama and comedy, and the troupes promise "thrilling special effects." Admission is $10 in general, $8 for seniors.

Friday, Oct. 21: 'Johnny English Reborn'

Rowan Atkinson returns as the unconventional secret-agent title character in the comedy spy-thriller "Johnny English Reborn." Recalled to duty years after disappearing into obscurity, the British agent must stop a group of assassins before they cause global chaos. The cast of the PG-rated film also includes Gillian Anderson, Dominic West and Rosamund Pike.

Saturday, Oct. 22: Owls on the prowl

The University of Tennessee Arboretum Society will present its annual Owl Prowl at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22, at the UT Arboretum, 901 S. Illinois Ave., Oak Ridge. The evening will include a live owl presentation by the Clinch River Raptor Center, walks on the grounds of the arboretum and owl encounters. For information, call 865-483-3571.

Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 22-23: Knoxville Horror Film Festival

The third annual Knoxville Horror Film Festival will feature short, scary films, a "Grindhouse Grind-out" filmmaking contest and the feature film "Chillerama" Saturday-Sunday, Oct. 22-23, at Relix Variety Theatre, 1208 N. Central St.

Awards for the films shown on Saturday will be given out on Sunday, along with fake B-movie trailers from the contest.

Sunday, Oct. 23: Host with the Most

A cross-section of Knoxville media personalities will perform stand-up comedy for charity in the "Host With the Most" contest at 7 p.m. at Side Splitters Comedy Club, 9246 Park West Blvd.

Performers will vie for the title and to win funds for their chosen causes. Contestants include returning champion Mitch Wheeler, Erin Donovan, Randall Brown, Octavius, Mike Howard, Whitney Kent, Taz Cable, Bruce Patrick and Oz.
