2008 — Singer and actress Jennifer Hudson's mother and brother — Darnell Donerson, age 57, and Jason Hudson, age 29 — are found dead at their Chicago home. Her nephew, seven-year-old Julian King, is missing from the scene. His body is found three days later.

2003 — Singer-songwriter Rozanna Lea "Rosey" Nix dies of carbon monoxide poisoning on a bus in Clarksville, Tenn. She is 45.

1992 — "End of the Road" by Boyz II Men logs its 11th week at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, tying a record set in 1956 by Elvis Presley's two-sided hit "Don't Be Cruel/Hound Dog."

1987 — No. 1 Billboard Pop Hit: "Bad," Michael Jackson.

1980 — R&B singer Monica (Monica Arnold) is born in Atlanta.

1980 — Paul McCartney is honored by the Guinness Book of World Records for being the best-selling songwriter and recording artist in music history.

2002 — Recording engineer and producer Tom Dowd dies of emphysema in Miami. He is 83.

1999 — Master P's hoop dream comes to an end when the rapper is waived by the NBA's Toronto Raptors, failing to make the pros for the second straight season.

1999 — Tina Turner announces plans for her "final stadium tour," the "Millennium 2000 Twenty Four Seven" tour, at a Paris press conference.

1995 — Gloria Estefan performs for Pope John Paul II as part of a celebration of the pontiff's 50 years in the priesthood. She is the only pop artist to receive an invitation to perform.

2008 — Steven Page of Barenaked Ladies receives an adjournment in contemplation of dismissal when the drug charges against him are reduced from a felony to a misdemeanor. If the 38-year-old behaves for six months, the charges will be dropped.

2007 — Country legend Porter Wagoner dies in Nashville, just a few weeks after being hospitalized with lung cancer. He is 80.

2004 — Rod Stewart's third collection of standards, "Stardust: The Great American Songbook 3," becomes his first chart-topping album since his 1978 set "Blondes Have More Fun."

2004 — Baritone saxophonist Gil Melle dies of a heart attack at his home in Malibu, Calif., at the age of 73.
