Who could best restore glory to the Vols?

View results | Previous polls

Breathe deep and exhale, Tennessee fans. The inescapable thrashings at the hands of LSU and Alabama are over, and the remaining schedule looks more reasonable without the nation’s top two teams looming on the horizon. In fact, it’s conceivable that the Vols will be competitive for the rest of the regular season because there are no more guaranteed loses.

That said, oddsmakers have declared South Carolina the favorite (albeit by only a few points) when Steve Spurrier marches them into Neyland Stadium Saturday night. And the Vols will surely be an underdog on the road against Arkansas on Nov. 12. And at this point even the Nov. 19 home game with Vanderbilt isn’t an automatic win. Meanwhile, for those looking forward to Cuonzo Martin’s first season as head coach of the men’s basketball team, there’s more bad news: The SEC media picked Tennessee to finish 11th of the conference’s 12 teams this season. So don’t expect Vols basketball to be a relief from Vols football.

We know these programs are rebuilding and in transition, etc., but can’t they speed it up?

With that in mind, what one man do you think would best restore glory to UT men’s athletics if he were to return to the fold today? Pick one of these guys or post your own.

Dumb poll so I didn't answer it. Choices are 3 former coaches who are never coming back and two injured players and as good as they are they will be gone before any real glory is restored to the football program.

If given time and the fan base is patient Dooley can get this program back where it belongs but it is going to take time. Many point to next season, but I say 2013 is more like it to start expecting 10 win seasons.

Completely agree with both points. KNS seems to search high and low for the dumbest person off the street to come in and take a shot at creating these absurd "polls." And I don't expect us getting back to the LSU/Bama level until 2013 either. We need more thoroughbreds (recruiting) and then time to develop/train them (coaching).

Do these people really get paid to come up with BS like this?

We are on the up and up. Good recruiting class coming in if they all stay committed and the players are buying into the system. Programs go through these slumps. Saben won a championship in his third year but Shula had left him with a talented team, Meyer was left a talented team by Ron Zook. I'm not sure Dooley would win championships with either of the teams but I would like to think so. We are getting better and I'm still going to wear Orange weather we win or loose. Go big Orange.

We miss J. Hunter the most, if he doesn't get hurt we have a lead in the Georgia game and wouldn't be throwing the ball with 4 min left in the game therefore Tyler doesn't break his thumb.

This, like all others, is a stupid poll. Find something else to fill the space.
