KNOXVILLE — Friday, Sept. 16: From a land down under: The Necks
Australian band The Necks are described as "not entirely avant-garde, nor minimalist, nor ambient, nor jazz." If that sounds intriguing, you can experience it all at 8 p.m. at the Bijou Theatre, 803. S. Gay St.
The unique-sounding trio is Chris Abrahams on piano, Tony Buck on drums and Lloyd Swanton on bass.

Saturday, Sept. 17: Royal Bangs
Knoxville band Royal Bangs, fresh off a European tour, will present two shows on Saturday, Sept. 17, at Pilot Light, 106 E. Jackson Ave.
The band will play an all-ages show, with opening act Yung Life, at 7 p.m. (with no beer sales going on) and an 18-and-up show, with opening act Mutations, at 10:30 p.m.
Tickets will be available for both shows at Hot Horse (located next to Pilot Light) for $8, or at the door for $10.
Sunday, Sept. 18: Cafe Noir
For the final installment of the "Homegrown in the Garden" series, the Carpetbag Theatre will present "Cafe Noir Out of Doors," an open-mic event of spoken-word, fashion and dance, at 7 p.m. at the Knoxville Botanical Gardens and Arboretum, 2743 Wimpole Ave.

Monday, Sept. 19: This is Cabinet
Pennsylvania bluegrass band Cabinet will entertain at 10 p.m. at Barley's Taproom & Pizzeria, 200 E. Jackson Ave.
The band combines bluegrass instrumentation with crowd-pleasing jams. The group's latest recording is "This Is Cabinet: Set I" on Ropeadope Records.
Tuesday, Sept. 20: Carla Bozulich
Singer-guitarist Carla Bozulich fronted the punkish band Geraldine Fibbers in the 1990s, and has since toured solo and with the group Evangelistas. She and musical partner John Eichenseer will headline an evening of music at 10 p.m. at Pilot Light, 106 E. Jackson Ave.
Knoxville rock sensation White Gregg will open the show. Admission is $6.
Wednesday, Sept. 21: Meanwhile, in Maryville
Wednesday night is hopping over in Maryville.
The Blues Jam kicks off around 8 p.m. at Brackin's Blues Club, 112 E. Broadway. Meanwhile, Good Times Karaoke will be underway at 8 p.m. a couple of doors down at Two Doors Down, 118 E. Broadway.

Activities will include printmaking, tie-dyed T-shirts, caricature sketches, watercolor demonstrations and more.

Jason Statham plays a retired secret agent (you know the type) of Britain's Elite Special Air Service who must face a team of assassins led by a clever mastermind (Clive Owen) to rescue his secret-agent mentor (Robert De Niro) in the new action film "Killer Elite."
Incredibly, it's based on a true story. The film is rated R.
Saturday, Sept. 24: Hola Festival
The 2011 Hola Festival will celebrate Latino folk arts and culture 11 a.m.-8 p.m. on Depot Avenue by Regas Square in downtown Knoxville.
Festivities will include music, food, dancing, a Parade of Nations, Dora the Explorer, art and more.
