Legendary southern rock & country fiddle ace Charlie Daniels and band will headline a concert at 8 p.m. at the Clayton Center for the Arts, 502 E. Lamar Alexander Parkway, Maryville.

Sunday, Oct. 2: 'Noise' in Oak Ridge
The traveling exhibit "Noise" offers 10 interactive activities that take a playful look at the physics of sound waves, from music to daily sounds.
The show is aimed at students through the eighth grade. It runs Sept. 30-Dec. 31 at the American Museum of Science and Energy, 300 S. Tulane Ave., Oak Ridge.

Monday, Oct. 3: Leon Redbone
Jazz and blues crooner Leon Redbone will headline an evening's entertainment at 8 p.m. at The Square Room, 4 Market Square.
Knoxville TV personality and comedian Erin Donovan — the self-proclaimed "Duchess of Snort" — will open the show with her comic tales and observations.

Chicago band Cornmeal, left, gets its bread to rise by playing uptempo tunes inspired by American roots and folk music traditions.

Wednesday, Oct. 5: Sound Off
The Jaystorm Project, Valley Young, Brimstone Treehouse, Lipliplip Hands and Standing Small will compete in the opening round of the 2011-2012 Sound Off series at 8 p.m. at The Square Room, 4 Market Square.
The theme for round one is "A Tribute to the 1960s." Bands will play original material and selections from the night's theme.

Thursday, Oct. 6: Catch the early show
Susan and Tim Lee of the Tim Lee 3 will host an early evening of songsmiths in performance 6-10 p.m. at Pilot Light, 106 E. Jackson Ave.

Friday, Oct. 7: 'Ides of March'
Ryan Gosling plays an idealistic campaign staffer for a first-time presidential candidate (George Clooney) in the new film drama "Ides of March." Wouldn't you know it, he gets embroiled dirty politics. The cast of the R-rated film also includes Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Paul Giamatti, Evan Rachel Wood and Marisa Tomei.
Friday, Oct. 7: 'Real Steel'
Hugh Jackman (left) plays Charlie Kenton, a down-on-his-luck promoter of robot boxing in "Real Steel," a rock'em-sock'em sci-fi story set in the "near future." Charlie grooms a discarded robot fighter for the big leagues as he also seeks to form a bond with his 11-year-old son (Dakota Goyo).
Saturday, Oct. 8: 'Laramie Project'
The Maryville College Theatre Department will present "The Laramie Project" at 8 p.m. Thursday-Saturday; 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 6-9, at the Clayton Center for the Arts, 502 E. Lamar Alexander Parkway, Maryville.
The play chronicles life in Laramie, Wyo., in the year following the murder of Matthew Shepard, a young gay man who was beaten and left to die in 1998.
Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for seniors (ages 60 and older), MC faculty and staff, theatre alumni, area students age 18 and younger, and college students with identification. Maryville College students are admitted free.
Sunday, Oct. 9: 'Music, Music Everywhere'
The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra will present the concert "Music, Music Everywhere" at 2:30 p.m. at the south campus of Cokesbury UMC, 9908 Kingston Pike.
Vocalist Katy Wolfe Zahn will join the orchestra for this concert of music by KSO Maestro Lucas Richman, George Gershwin and more.
