Local death metal band Whitechapel will be among the acts on this summer's Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival. Slipknot and Slayer will headline the festival.

Playing outdoor venues, the 26-date journey will begin in San Bernardino, Calif., on June 30, and end in Hartford, Conn., on Aug. 5. The closest tour stop to Knoxville will be an Atlanta date on July 14.

Joining Whitechapel will be Anthrax, As I Lay Dying, The Devil Wears Prada, Asking Alexandra and High on Fire. More acts will be announced in the coming weeks.

"Mayhem 2012 might just be the last and greatest metal festival before the world ends. So wreak havoc and go out in style," Slayer's Tom Araya told pollstar.com.

A special ticket presale event will begin April 6. For more info, check out rockstarmayhemfest.com.

Also, Whitechapel is currently headlining its own RecorrupTour, with other acts including After the Burial, Within the Ruins and The Plot in You. The RecorrupTour will hit Knoxville's Valarium on Sunday, March 11. Tickets, including VIP packages, for the Valarium show are on sale now.
