Knoxville native Greer Mackebee comes up short in second round of 'Jeopardy!' championship

Knoxville native and Webb School graduate Greer Mackebee won't be moving on in the "Jeopardy!" College Championship.

Mackebee competed as a semifinalist on Thursday night's episode of the TV quiz show, but couldn't catch competitor Sarah Bart of Baltimore's Goucher College, who held a sizable lead throughout much of the episode.

Mackebee, a senior at Duke University, did land a "Daily Double" in the Double Jeopardy round, raising his cash total from $6,000 to $14,400. But an incorrect answer in Final Jeopardy knocked him from the competition, ensuring Bart a finalist slot in the tournament.

A 2008 graduate of Webb School of Knoxville, Mackebee is the son of Farragut residents Bill and Betty Mackebee.

The tournament continues through Feb. 14. "Jeopardy!" airs locally at 7:30 p.m weeknights on WBIR, Channel 10.
