Tim Gunn, Nina Garcia, Robin Roberts, Jess Cagle and Louise Roe cover the red carpet for ABC.
Sometimes the build-up to the Academy Awards is better than the actual ceremony.
Building up to the Academy Awards (seen live from Hollywood starting at 8 p.m. Sunday on WATE, Channel 6), a slew of previews are scheduled this weekend. Here’s a look at a few of them and what they have to offer:
The cool factor
MTV may not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of the Academy Awards, but it has its own allure. This year the MTV News coverage will kick off on the Internet.
Josh Horowitz and Christina Garibaldi will work will the red carpet at 5 p.m. Sunday on MTV.com.
They’ll be snagging stars who pass by, making chit-chat and talking about fashion. Fans can get in on the action via Twitter by using the @mtvnews handle and hashtag #Oscars.
A few fans will get their tweets read live on the air.
Undoubtedly, MTV.com will get the big names — just as any major entertainment outlet would — but MTV has the cache to grab the off-the-wall talent and, possibly the stars wearing the most daring dresses.
If they have purple hair, a strange piercing or are known better from the music world than the big screen, MTV News will be where they gravitate.
The A-list
If you want the meat and bones and get straight down to business, ABC’s “Oscar’s Red Carpet” (7 p.m. Sunday) will be where you want to tune.
Tim Gunn and Robin Roberts will be among the talent posted to work the carpet. Roberts knows all the stars. Gunn knows fashion and will not hold back on what he thinks.
Since the ceremony is on ABC, you can bet this red carpet arrival coverage will get the A-listers first and for the longest amount of time that is allowed.
The wacky
E! News kicks off coverage at 5 p.m. Sunday with a 360-degree “fashion cam” that looks at what stars are wearing from front to back.
