Interactive educational displays are part of Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies new shark exhibit.
More sharks are swimming in Ripley's Aquarium of the Smokies in Gatlinburg in a new exhibit called "Perfect Predators: Sharks!"
The exhibit aims to go beyond superstitions about sharks and explore the species' struggle to survive. It includes live sharks as well as 30 interactive, hands-on displays about the creatures.
Visitors can see an up-close view of a shark's skin, determine some of the man-made objects found in sharks' stomachs and understand why sharks have endured for millions of years on Earth.
The aquarium is known for its permanent Shark Lagoon exhibit that takes visitors through a long, clear tunnel as sharks and other sea creatures swim by and over them.
"Perfect Predators" will be at the aquarium throughout 2012. It's included in the aquarium admission of $22.99 for adults, $11.99 for children ages 6 to 11, $5.99 for children ages 2 to 5.
The aquarium is located at traffic light number five in Gatlinburg. It is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday during the winter and spring; 9 a.m.-11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The aquarium also is open 9 a.m.-11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
