New Play Festival runs this month
The Tennessee Stage Company's 15th annual New Play Festival continues through Jan. 29. During the festival, four new plays are read at Knox County Public Library branches. The readings are free.
The readings are held to help polish, refine and revise the plays. The plays are not produced as theater but are read in hopes that they will one day be presented on stage. After each reading, the playwright will ask the readers and the audience to discuss the play.
The plays being read are "Stations of the Cross," a dark comedy about two estranged sisters, written by Brandon Daughtry Slocum; two offbeat looks at love in "Grace and Christmas in the Summer" by Paul Leeper; and Gayle Green's romantic comedy "Tic Toc" about a female lawyer who has everything but love.
"Tic Toc" is being read at noon and "Grace and Christmas in the Summer" at 2 p.m. Jan. 21 at the Fountain City branch library. "Stations of the Cross" will be read at 2 p.m. Jan. 21 at the Carter branch.
"Stations of the Cross" will be read at 11 a.m. Jan. 28 with "Grace and Christmas in the Summer" read at 2 p.m. that day at Lawson McGhee Library on Church Avenue in downtown Knoxville. "Tic Toc" will be read at 2 p.m. Jan. 29 at Lawson McGhee.
