Sherman Hemsley, star of the hit television show "The Jeffersons," was found dead at his home in El Paso, Texas. According to TMZ, Hemsley was found by his nurse and appeared to have died from natural causes.

Born in Philadelphia, Hemsley, 74, was best known for playing the role of George Jefferson, Archie Bunker's neighbor on the television series "All In the Family." The character was so popular that producers of "All In the Family" created the spin-off show "The Jeffersons" to feature Hemsley and co-star Isabel Sanford as a black couple who move from a working class neighborhood to, as the show's theme song says, a "deluxe apartment in the sky."

"The Jeffersons" ran from from 1975 to 1985, before being canceled. Hemsley went on to star in the television series "Amen," provided a voice in the series "Dinosaurs," and had recurring roles in "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air," "Sister, Sister," "The Hughleys," "Clunkers" and several other television shows.
