A portion of U.S. Highway 19E was closed because of a two-vehicle crash with injuries Friday afternoon, Sheriff Chris Mathes said.
According to Mathes, two people were flown to the Johnson City Medical Center with severe injuries following an accident that happened around 4:02 p.m.
The accident occurred on Roaring Creek Road near White Way Grill between Hampton and Roan Mountain. The road intersects with U.S. 19E.
Mathes said there were seven to eight people combined in both vehicles and two occupants were trapped inside.
Emergency personnel are still on scene and the investigation is ongoing.
