Mala Jani, center, holds her daughter, Anya, as they dance around a maypole during the 10th Annual Vestival, also known as South Knoxville's Art and Heritage Festival, on the grounds of the former Candoro Marble Company Saturday, May 8, 2010. Jani says, "I love going and you cannot miss it because the weather is so good."
Next weekend brings music, art, and free food for Mom to South Knoxville.
The South Knoxville festival called Vestival is 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday, May 12. It's the 12th annual event, also tagged the South Knoxville Art and Heritage Festival, and is held the Saturday before Mother's Day at the former Candoro Marble Factory, 681 Maryville Pike.
Start with the food since the festival does. A Mother's Day brunch, with moms getting to eat for free, begins the festivities at 11 a.m.
But no one goes hungry at Vestival; the event includes food vendors.
Vestival includes two stages for music and other entertainment, children's activities and artists showing and selling their works.
The event is free but help is appreciated. A suggested donation of $5 goes to support the care and restoration of the Candoro building and grounds. The building is on the National Register of Historic Places.
The festival's musical acts include Brandon James Wright and the Wrongs, The Bearded, Maggie Longmire, Jodie Manross, Marina Orchestra and The Theorizt. There's also a Maypole dance, a cake walk and performances by Dragon Fly Aerial Acts and One World Circus.
Vestival is sponsored by the Candoro Arts & Heritage Center.
