New brewery in town hosts Thursday tasting

Getting antsy for this fall's Knoxville Brewers' Jam? Then how about a tasting from a new brewer in town?

Saw Works Brewing Co., formerly Marble City Brewing, will host an evening of beer tasting on Thursday at the Casual Pint, 234 Brookview Center Way.

The company's head brewer, Dave Ohmer, will be on hand pouring Saw Works Brewing pale ale.

The event is scheduled from 6-9 p.m. and includes a silent auction that begins at 7 p.m.

Included in the auction are tickets to the 2012 Brewers' Jam, VIP tickets to the Brewers' Jam, tickets to the beer festival with a hotel stay, a private party for 30 at the Mill, Saw Works brewery tasting room, and one pint a day, every day, for a year from the Market in Maryville.

A raffle is also slated during Thursday's event. Tickets are $10 each or two for $15.

A T-shirt drawing is scheduled every 30 minutes. There's also a drawing for a Saw Works Brewing tap handle at the end of the event.

Proceeds from the evening's event (as well as proceeds from Brewers' Jam) benefit Community Shares, a coalition of about 50 Tennessee groups dedicated to promoting a more just and caring community.

This year's Knoxville Brewers' Jam is scheduled to take place Oct. 6 at World's Fair Park. General admission is $40.
