Bob Newhart to appear at Tennessee Theatre fundraiser

Comedian Bob Newhart will appear in the 2013 "Stars on Stage" fundraiser event for the Tennessee Theatre. The event will be held at 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at the Tennessee Theatre.

Newhart first came to prominence in the 1960s as a stand-up comedian with the hit album "Button Down Mind," but gained his greatest fame for his 1970s situation comedy "The Bob Newhart Show." He followed with other sitcoms in the 1980s and 1990s and has appeared in many feature films, including 2011's "Horrible Bosses." In 2002, he was awarded the Mark Twain Prize for Humor.

Previous concerts in the annual "Stars On Stage" series include, Loretta Lynn, Jay Leno, B.B. King and Al Green.

Tickets are $152 and $47 and and go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at Knoxville Tickets outlets, 865-656-4444 and at www.knoxvilletickets.com.
