Changes
Independent station WMAK, Channel 7, is about to undergo major changes.
It was announced this week that Lockwood Broadcast Group will be the new owners, pending FCC approval. The current owner is Daystar Television.
The deal is expected to close first quarter 2013.
Also, WMAK will be getting new call letters, switching to WKNX, officials with Lockwood said in a media release.
"When the deal closes, it will create a duopoly with (Knoxville) CW affiliate WBXX, which Lockwood acquired from ACME Communications in May 2011," a news release says.
"We're excited about adding WKNX, 'The Knox' to our growing group of stations," said Lockwood president Dave Hanna.
"This is a terrific opportunity to better serve the community and advertisers in Knoxville and maximize the wonderful resources in place at WBXX."
There's no word yet on how this may change the programming offered.
Terry Morrow may be reached at 865-342-6445 or morrowt@knoxville.com.
