High-school football playoffs start this week, and as always, there are plenty of local contenders for state championships.

Defending Class 6A champ Maryville has rolled through another undefeated regular season and is ranked No. 1 in its classification. Since suffering an early season setback to Maryville, Alcoa has mowed down the competition and is No. 1 in Class 3A. And Grace Christian (9-1, with its only loss coming to Christian Academy of Knoxville) is No. 1 in 2A.

Other ranked area teams include Oak Ridge, Bearden, Sevier County, Powell, West, Lenoir City, Fulton, Greeneville, CAK, Oneida, Greenback, Coalfield and Webb School of Knoxville.
