News Sentinel veteran cartoonist Charlie Daniel will be among the participants in the 2013 edition of "Dancing with the Knoxville Stars," a benefit for East Tennessee Children's Hospital.
"I have a high admiration for Children's Hospital. I couldn't say no," said Daniel, who jokingly claimed he hadn't danced since his high school prom, when he did the two-step.
His recollection of his prom dancing: "That's when we would just hold on and sway."
But now, decades later, he is willing to put his best foot forward.
While Daniel admits he doesn't like to dance, his wife, Patsy, was a modern dancer during her college days. "Really," Daniel said, "she should be the one doing this, not me."
This marks the fifth staging of "Dancing with the Knoxville Stars," where local dignitaries are paired with Knoxille dance pros and perform in front of an audience at the Knoxville Expo Center.
WWST-FM, 102.1, produces the event.
WVLT, Channel 8, prime anchor Amanda Hara has agreed to represent her station this year.
Hara said she has very little dance experience. "Unless you count the time when I was eight years old, and my parents put me in a ballet class," she said. "All I remember is running around (with) a scarf and waving it around."
After years of being asked, comedian Leanne Morgan and WBIR, Channel 10, anchor Russell Biven have said they would do "Dancing" this time.
"My wife, Rhonda, and my kids really want me to do it," Biven said. "They are excited about it."
Also, WWST midday personality Dusti Kemps will make her debut on the dance floor.
It has also been confirmed that actor David Keith will participate as well as Misty Mills of Jewelry Television, singer Jordan Hill and WATE, Channel 6, reporter Don Dare.
"Dancing" is scheduled for Friday, March 22. Another date for the event that ran in print and in this blog was incorrect and provided by sources at WWST-FM, 1021.1.
