Oliver Springs resident Janelle Arthur has some praying to do.
The 23-year-old singer, who has made the top 40 semi-finalists cut on “American Idol,” will perform now for a spot in the Las Vegas round (8 p.m. Wednesday, WTNZ, Channel 43). More than half of her competition will have to be eliminated for that to happen.
A spokesperson for the program said Arthur is scheduled to perform in tonight’s installment. If she gets the judges’ approval, she’ll move onto the next round in Las Vegas.
Already critics are saying Arthur, a budding country music artist, has a good shot at winning this year’s “Idol” title.
In this Fox-produced video, Arthur, 23, takes viewers back to Oliver Springs and introduces her family and friends to them.
The video include Arthur’s cousin, Madeline Giles; her mother, Judy Arthur; her uncle, Robbie Underwood; and her grandmother, Oredith West.
Of the competition, she said, “This is more than a dream. It’s me. This is my calling. This is what I’m meant to do ... I’m praying really hard,” Arthur said. “I’m probably not praying enough.”
UnrealityTV.com has raved of the East Tennessee talent, “Janelle Arthur is one name that keeps coming up on ‘American Idol.’ This country crooner is just adorable and has the absolute girl-next-door factor. Since her initial audition Nicki Minaj has never been shy about her admiration, and who can blame her?
“Janelle has one of the clearest voices in the competition.”
Insiders speculate Arthur is a leading candidate to make it to the Las Vegas round. Already, Arthur has gone beyond the other two times she has auditioned for “Idol.” Previously she was only able to make it to the Hollywood rounds.
