"American Idol" judges, from left, Mariah Carey, Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj loved hearing Oliver Springs resident Janelle Arthur sing.
"American Idol" contestant Janelle Arthur of Oliver Springs has something to prove to herself.
"I want to prove if you keep going, if you don't let rejection stop you, you can (succeed anyway)," Arthur, 22, said of her third stint on "Idol" (8 p.m. today, WTNZ, Channel 43).
"I would hate for ('Idol') not to work out (for me). I want to do well so I put pressure on myself."
Arthur has glided through the open auditions three times, earning a golden ticket that sent her on to the "Hollywood Round" (although she actually went to Las Vegas instead once).
The other two times she was cut during the Hollywood rounds. Arthur's latest stab at the Hollywood rounds begins next week.
For now, she's cooling her heels in Oliver Springs. The Hollywood rounds are pre-recorded so Arthur already knows if she advances to the live shows later next month.
The experience of making to the Hollywood rounds twice before works in her favor.
"Overall, it does help, knowing what to expect" during the Hollywood rounds, she said. "I kind of figured out I need to relax.
"I should let my song choices translate into who am I as a person, but I also put pressure on myself to do well."
Arthur knew "Idol" would have a new set of judges (Keith Urban, Mariah Carey and Nicki Minaj) and thought they might recognize her talents a bit more than the previous ones (Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler).
"That's another reason I went back (to the open audition)," she said.
Arthur got unanimous approval from "Idol's" celebrities judges to advance to the Hollywood rounds.
If "Idol" 2013 spoilers boards are accurate, she makes it into the top 20 females and maybe beyond.
