"30 Rock," which ends its seven-season run tonight, may be the only sitcom left that wants to be more than merely amusing. It dares to make its audience laugh out loud.
For the vast majority of its run, "30 Rock" has gone for the visual gag or double-meaning punch lines in ways no other series does.
As an homage to "30 Rock," my favorite sitcom currently (which means I only have a few hours left to find a new favorite; the finale is 8 p.m. today, WBIR, Channel 10), here are some endearing lines:
Context: Liz Lemon (Tina Fey) and Jack (Alec Baldwin) are pondering ways to indicate a woman's sexual orientation.
Line!"I DVRed a documentary about the woman who designed all of Pat Summitt's blazers."
Context: Jenna ( Jane Krakowski) once again declaring how attractive she thinks the world sees her.
Line!"Listen up, fives, a ten is speaking."
Context: Jack explains to Liz why America finds Tracy's wife (Sherri Shepherd) so appealing in a reality show.
Line!"Well, I do like the way she says 'ham.'"
Context: Tracy chews over the importance of living in the moment .
Line!"Live every week like it's shark week."
Context: Liz questions why Jack is wearing a tuxedo for no apparent reason.
Line!"It's after 6. What am I? A farmer?"
Context: Kenneth gives his insight into pop culture television of yesteryear.
Line!"Those people on 'Match Game' were drunk. With power."
Context: Liz reasons what she'll do just to fit into the crowd.
Line!"There's an 80 percent chance I'm going to tell everybody that I'm going to vote for Barack Obama but I'll secretly vote for John McCain."
