Review: Girls just wanna have fun in 'Broad City'

WHAT IT’S ABOUT: Where do adults come from? Because it’s crazy how grown-ups somehow form out of the self-absorbed post-teens stumbling through life in lunacy like “Broad City.”

But would they end up the same adults — oops, almost typed “sane” adults — without these inspired adventures? If it isn’t girls with sticky notes on their sex toys (the first scene in tonight’s premiere, so you know what you’re getting), then it’s girls cleaning an apartment in underwear to make quick bucks off a big baby (can’t explain, must see).

Which isn’t to say “Broad City” is a graphic show. It’s just NYC existence for average twentysomethings Abbi (Abbi Jacobson) and Ilana (Ilana Glazer), for whom talent/skill is a non-starter. Tightly edited vignettes chronicle their days of cleaning and/or napping on toilets, at McJobs that rarely even pay, prompting Central Park bucket drumming to fund a club run. Back home, there’s a roommate’s boyfriend eating all their cheese, or stolen office supplies returned for gift cards traded for everything from pot to pizza.

MY SAY: The star-creator partners learned their trade at Upright Citizens Brigade, following Amy Poehler, Adam McKay, Neil Flynn and other improv nuts, after which their webseries led to this cable half-hour. They know how to nail situations/characters, while snappy edits cull fluff, leaving only comic gold. (Plus great guests like this week’s Hannibal Buress or Feb. 5’s Janeane Garofalo.)

BOTTOM LINE: Girls just wanna have fun, y’know.
