Dolly Parton was born Dolly Rebecca Parton on January 19, 1946 in Sevierville. She and her 11 siblings grew up in Locust Ridge, Tenn., in Sevier County. She had her debut on Grand Ole Opry stage in 1959. Her first single was "Puppy Love" which was released in 1960, and her first hit was "Dumb Blonde," released in 1967.

There's a difference between wishes and dreams," the singer said Thursday afternoon at Dollywood. "I want to sort of define the difference for them. I want to give them some helpful hints." She arrived in town on Thursday to tend to some business.
