Thursday, July 2, 2009

After 15 years of being recognized as “Hootie” from Hootie and the Blowfish, Darius Rucker was caught off guard recently while checking into a Baltimore hotel. “It’s the same hotel I stay in all the time, and there’s a new clerk back there and she’s looking at me and staring at me and I’m expecting ‘Hey, aren’t you Hootie’ or ‘Aren’t you the guy from Hootie and the Blowfish.’ And she looked at me and said, ‘Aren’t you Darius Rucker the country singer.’ Full story »

State of the world drove Brad Paisley to heavier themes

Thursday, July 2, 2009

NASHVILLE (AP) - As much as he enjoys singing about the double lives of computer geeks ("Online") and amorous country boys ( "Ticks" ), Brad Paisley says there's too much going on in the world to be too lighthearted on his new album, "American Saturday Night."

Wil Wright takes stock in Senryu's accomplishments

Thursday, July 2, 2009

Touring with a slew of regional bands makes it hard to keep up with the two Knoxville-based bands Wil Wright has founded. NFL players put the heavy in metal

NFL players put the heavy in metal

Monday, June 29, 2009

Marc Colombo lowers his bald head and leans his sweaty, 6-foot-8, 318-pound frame toward the microphone, growling to the crowd that the next song will “rip your face off.” The sometimes scary stage presence of the heavily tattooed guitarist and singer, who is one of three Dallas Cowboys offensive linemen in the heavy metal band Free Reign, is a thing of beauty for the head of the recording company that just signed them. Brackins' weekly bluegrass jam one of area's best-kept secrets

Friday, June 26, 2009

I've been to Brackins only a few times, but I can safely conclude that it's cooler than it has any right to be. Not to be offensive to anyone from Maryville, but Brackins is one of the better venues I've been to in the entire country.
