Bearden High School

Bearden High School is a public, coeducational college-preparatory grade 9-12 high school. It is at 8325 Kingston Pike in West Knoxville, about one mile to the west of West Town Mall. It is easily accessible from Interstate 40.

The first graduating class of Bearden High School in 1943 had just 12 students. The school’s current building was constructed in 1969. The school received a major renovation from 1997-1999. The school, like the Bearden community of Knoxville, was named after former Knoxville mayor and Union army veteran Marcus DeLafayette Bearden.

Bearden High School is today attended by approximately 2,100 students.

Its feeder middle schools are Bearden, Cedar Bluff and West Valley.

Bearden is a comprehensive high school. There are many academic, service and special interest clubs available to students. The school also has math and English writing labs. Peer tutoring is available for students who need extra help, as is student mentoring.

The school offers 17 Advanced Placement courses, five foreign languages and fine arts classes including drama, art, marching and concert bands, orchestra, chorus and a show choir. There is a full Navy JROTC program with color guard and drill team.

Bearden is also heavily involved in athletics.

Students can compete in basketball, cheerleading, dance, wrestling, baseball, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field, volleyball, cross country, golf, football, rugby, ice hockey, lacrosse, and swimming and diving.

The school mascot is the bulldog.
