Market Square is in the center of downtown Knoxville. The open, paved space is flanked by restaurants, bars and stores and features a stage at one end. The stage is used for such events as Shakespeare on the Square, Sundown in the City and Summer Concerts in the Park.
Other events at Market Square include the Market Square Farmers Market, First Night Knoxville, the Dogwood Arts Festival, Mardi Growl, the Kuumba festival, winter ice skating and many more.
Market Square was created in 1854 as a marketplace for regional farmers.
