Sapphire’s the kind of bar that should be featured in a movie or TV show. A dark venue with neon lights, expensive furniture and music that makes you want to dance, playing just loud enough that you have to raise your voice but not so loudly that conversation is impossible — strikes me as something that could be in the show “Entourage.”

Of course, most bars in Knoxville are more like something from “Talladega Nights.”

Sapphire represents the entirety of upscale clubs in Knoxville. Classy joints are still around, but there’s nothing else quite like Sapphire.

With it’s swanky, urban decor, neon light scheme, and music that straddles the line between soothing and making you want to dance, it captures all aspects of the “downtown club” vibe.

Sure, it’s a little bit geared toward women, with its flashy cocktails. And the mere fact that it’s called Sapphire — it’s difficult to picture a bunch of frat guys getting excited about hitting a bar named after a jewel. Unless it’s a strip club, which Sapphire most definitely is not.
