Fulton High

Fulton High School is a public, coeducational college-preparatory grade 9-12 high school. It is located at 2509 N. Broadway. in North Knoxville. The school is in proximity to both Interstate 40 and Interstate 640.

Fulton opened in 1951. An $18 million renovation project was completed in 1998. This gave the school a new gym complex that houses its basketball facility, weight rooms, ROTC, and physical education and wellness classrooms. A skywalk connecting the gym to the existing school was also added. A new library was placed in the old gym, greatly expanding its capacity.

Fulton is attended by approximately 1,200 students. Its feeder middle schools are Bearden, Holston, Northwest, Vine and Whittle Springs.

Fulton received an academic redesign beginning in 2008. The new design focuses on the ACT test as its standard. The redesign created four stand alone schools or learning communities located in a single building, each operating on a separate floor. The program “change(s) from traditional academic departments into interdisciplinary teams with common collaboration areas.” The program provides learning centers, ACT prep courses, extended school days and a short summer mini term of three-and-a-half weeks. The four learning communities are Freshman Experience, School of Communication, School of Health Science and School of Human Services. Students are required to complete the ACT by junior year.

Fulton also offers several Advanced Placement courses, dual enrollment courses and a distance learning classroom that allows students to take specialty courses using two-way cameras and real-time interaction with other schools and classes in the Knox County school district.

Students at Fulton can participate in sports such as baseball, basketball, cheerleading, cross country, football, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field, softball, volleyball and wrestling. The school mascot is the falcon.
