Biography
Lance Coleman was born and raised in Soddy-Daisy, near Chattanooga and graduated with an English Education degree with a minor in history and communications from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.After a short stint as a teacher, he took a job as a reporter at what is now the Chattanooga Times Free Press newspaper. He worked there five years, four of which he got to cover police beat.
In January of 1999, Coleman took a couple years off from working as a reporter. He returned to the industry in December of 2000 when he was hired as a police/courts and military reporter at the Daily Times in Maryville.
In January of 2005, he joined the staff at the Scripps weekly Blount Today and worked there seven years as a reporter and then editor.
Coleman did issue and analysis pieces, human interest stories, community news and features focused on Maryville and surrounding communities.
Coming to the Knoxville News Sentinel is longtime career goal for Coleman.
