Written on Next for Carey Mulligan: Daisy in 'The Great Gatsby' :

I wonder why they are filming it in Australia.

Written on Grub Scout: Tamales take center stage at Knoxville Center mall :

I miss Mary's Tamales on Magnolia. Those ladies there made AWESOME tamales.
However, their retirement was probably good for my cholesterol levels.

Written on Grub Scout: Tamales take center stage at Knoxville Center mall :

in response to whstoneman:

I wouldn't go to East Town Mall if the food and/or merchandise was free. I refer to the hovel as East Town Mall since that is the last time I was there. Change the name, but you can't change the danger.

I can't help but chuckle at chickens who are terrified by anything east of Sequoyah Hills.
I don't go to malls if I can help it, but I'd much rather go to Knoxville Center than to West Town, due to the ample parking available.

Written on Bela Fleck and the Flecktones are always going where no band as gone before :

The Flecktones actually began in 1988 or 1989, not 1998. I remember their second show ever was at EllAGurus.

Written on Poll: It doesn’t add up to count out the Vols, does it?:

With only one negative choice, I'm guessing that the poll results will skew strongly to the doomsayers' pick. The "glass half full" crowd will have their votes scattered among the four other choices.

Written on Roger Roger: Legendary comedy 'Airplane!' comes to Blu-ray :

Surely you must be joking!

Written on Diverse array of festivals to fill weekend in East Tennessee:

There is also another Festival going on in South Knox on Saturday and Sunday-- John Sevier Days at Marble Springs.
http://www.marblesprings.net/Welcome....
This is a fun festival, and there are lots of activities and educational opportunities for the kids.

Written on Baconfest 2011 set to sizzle this weekend:

Bacon is a "gateway meat". Those poor vegetarians are powerless to resist its alluring scent and flavor.

Written on Adrian Belew's tour is almost King Crimson and more:

I loved the work he did with King Crimson (especially "Larks Tongues in Aspic") and also with the Talking Heads.
It's ironic that Weymouth and Frantz didn't give him credit as a co-writer for "Genius of Love"-- those two sure made a public stink when they felt like David Byrne (correctly) didn't give them much credit for songwriting on "Remain in Light".
I would love to see a King Crimson reunion tour with Fripp joining in-- Belew's soul and originality mixed with Fripp's pure technical expertise made for a great combination.

Written on Trace Adkins, Kristin Chenoweth to host ACAs :

Kristin Chenoweth's best work is as "Miss Noodle" on my daughters' Elmo videos.

Written on Sam Raimi to remake 'Evil Dead':

I'm pretty sure Ash didn't survive in the first "Evil Dead" movie. He did survive in "Evil Dead II", which was kind of like a re-writing of the first movie, and of course by "Army of Darkness", he was the equivalent of a blackbelt in zombie combat.

Written on Man files new claim that he's Eddy Arnold's son:

Rumors that I am Willie Nelson's son are likely false.

Written on Gear up for Sundown with this quiz on the series' headlining artists:

Looking forward to seeing the Wailers and Karl Denson. Free live music rules.

Written on Pop, country singer Dan Seals dies of cancer:

RIP Dan Seals. 61 is way too young.

Written on Stacy McCloud to leave WVLT, Channel 8:

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wish her well, but I might have to start watching a different station now that she's leaving. Stacey McCloud rules.

Written on Mandrell, Clark, McCoy join Country Hall of Fame:

Roy Clark is an incredible musician. I'm surprised he wasn't inducted earlier.

Written on The Boss, Phish to headline Bonnaroo 2009:

in response to jennl:

Nine years of bonnaroo? I count only seven years and this year's festival will be number eight.

You're right-- the first one was '02, so this will be the eighth.
I'm curious if Phish will have the kind of draw that they had before their first "hiatus", and I also wonder if they are going to have new material for this summer's tour, or if they are just going to re-acquaint themselves and their fans with their previous material for a while.

Written on Knox chef steps into hot 'Kitchen' :

I bet her husband enjoys the breakfasts. She's a very good chef.
