Written on Johnny Depp, Tim Burton talk on gothic origins, contemporary humor in 'Dark Shadows' :

in response to jonathan#509413:

If Depp and that hack Burton liked the original so much then why are they doing a movie that is a parody of it? Hollywood obviously has no imagination or fresh creativity left and has been 'remaking' everything from The Brady Bunch to The Dukes of Hazzard and The Lone Ranger. As if the lack of new ideas isn't bad enough, they seem to think that when they pick among the bones of older ideas they have to 're-imagine' them - as if their lack of creative ability is made better by putting their own, asinine spin on the ideas of other people who WEREN'T devoid of creativity and imagination.

Next thing you know Burton or some other hack will be remaking 'Invasion of the Body Snatchers' as a romantic comedy.

Written on Grub Scout: Powell's La Palma de Oro delivers authentic Mexican flavors :

My family and I tried them a few weeks ago with decent results. Our service was a little slow (and they were not packed at all) but the food came out quickly with fairly large portions and good prices. While I enjoyed our food, the spouse thought it a bit too "bland" in the flavor department. She has since been told by a Mexican national friend of hers that the food is authentic and cooked that way. It is the Tex-Mex type of food that is spicier and more Americanized that she is used to. Oh well.

All in all, we will return again.

Wow, what a silly comment!

Written on Terry Morrow: Lake City family to star in TLC series :

in response to Kasey:

These large families bring all these kids in the world and then put them on TV like some freak show to make money off of them. Exploitation in my opinion. The kids are like cookie cutter kids, All dressed just alike, all same hairstyles, not allowed to be individuals and pursue their own interests. Supposedly because they are religious it makes it all okay.

That's real good Kasey. Attack and condemn what you can't fathom and don't understand. Speaks volumes doesn't it??

Written on Terry Morrow: North Knoxville man fondly recalls Whitney Houston :

in response to flashbone21:

always the mans fault. am i the only one sick of hearing about all this? call me mr insensitivity.

It does work both ways of course. Many a good man has been brought to ruin by a corrupting woman in a the similar situation. Very sad.

A wise momma's warning of picking your friends carefully comes to mind.

Written on Whitney Houston, superstar of records, films, dies:

in response to MerrieLong:

Don't think it's 'juvenile and shallow' to wonder what caused her death. I think it's 'juvenile and shallow' to mourn someone you don't even know simply because they sang purty a couple of decades ago.

Think I'll pass on the mourning. Didn't really know her. From what I know of her, though, she had a God-given talent, worked her way to success and then threw it all back in her creator's face.

You mourn the pop icon, I'll mourn the waste of talent and a blessed life squandered.

Just how very sad and tragic.

Written on Terry Morrow: 'Real Housewives of Orange County' star to drop by Women Today:

in response to MerrieLong:

Meh.

How many of these Real Housewives shows ARE there now? Who watches them?! I can't even fathom. I will be so glad when these faux reality shows run their course.

Hope she'll pull the top of her dress up so we don't have to see every single thing she's purchased at the plastic surgeon and that black bra that she probably wasted $300 to wear once.

What's ironic is that she'll be at the Women Today Expo. Um, women...today? I don't know any women like this. If the lifestyle that the women on these shows lead is supposed to be indicative of Women Today, then I am ashamed of being a woman.

Written on The Insider: Visiting PBS president eyes 'dire' state of stations:

“Our funding, of course, comes from the White House and Congress,” she said, “so it’s important to see what might be coming (financially) out of this Congress. I’m concerned because Congress has signaled, in general, a cutback in federal funding for lots of organizations."

Hmm. I understood only Congress can allocate funds used for their budget.

PBS supporters will step up and help replace any federal funds that this Congress could (and should) reduce or eliminate. And that's the way it should be.

If you really believe Fox is "fair and balanced" perhaps you never watched any other news or read a decent newspaper. Murdock admitted his interest in electing Republicans. Written on Christian star Jennifer Knapp lets go, comes out:

in response to Carter_Pewterschmidt:

So, by your comments, you are saying it's against God's will to commit these "sins". That's your belief, and I respect that. However, why can't those who call themselves Christians leave it up to Him to do the judging?? See above, or crack your Bible and read about getting the LOG out of your own eye before you try to pick the splinter out of mine. Bottom line is, you don't have to answer to God for Jennifer Knapp. Nor do I. It's not YOUR business, nor is it mine, nor is it anyone else's, and it is certainly NOT yours or my responsibility to judge this girl. She will need to work it out with God-not with me, not with you, nor with anyone else in this world.

I agree. But don't confuse "judging her" as expressing what her actions are about and their consequences. Done the right way, it is about loving the other person back from the brink of some sin that's gonna harm them. You tell your child to not touch a hot stove out of love - not because you are a critic. It would be up to those people she has an actual relationship with to try to speak into her life out of love - and only after they have examined their own lives for hypocrisy and sin so that their motives are pure and done at the right time and way.

In today's culture, if one disagrees with someone, the offender often flips out the "don't judge me" card which is a cop-out and normally is followed by lots of rationalization.

Written on Christian star Jennifer Knapp lets go, comes out:

in response to Carter_Pewterschmidt:

His words, not mine.

Luke 6:37 Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven:

Matthew 7:3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

James 4:12 There is one lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?

So by your comments you've established that we (humans) are not the one's to be doing the final judging of our fellow man (according to what you have selected) but God. Now go further and see what God's word (old and new testament) says about the issue. You will find that God considers homosexuality a sin (and not the unpardonable sin) like many other sins such as adultery, fornication, etc. These sexual sins are NOT what He intends us to live under as slaves. These are bad choices based on bad feelings and urges as a result of our fallen and broken natures. He can set us free from these and I hope the singer grasps this truth as well.

Check out His words, not mine.
