Brushy Mountain, located next to Mount LeConte, is one of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park's largest heath balds. These are open areas where the vegetation consists of bushes and shrubs. Scientists are studying the soils to determine their age and origin. The hike included a stop at Grotto Falls.
